Between 1820 and 1930 some four and a quarter million British immigrants chose the United States as their new home. Cultural similarities and a common language allowed them to integrate rapidly and gave rise to a unique Anglo-American culture which is still globally dominant today. This four-volume facsimile edition draws together a wide variety of documents relating to British immigration to the United States during the nineteenth century. Sources range from immigrants’ letters, through emigrant guides, travel literature, newspaper reports and local histories.
