Work Experience
We currently offer a limited number of work experience placements. We are keen to hear from graduates or students entering their final year at university who are considering starting a career in publishing.
Our placements are for a minimum of two weeks full-time, and we are happy to consider longer full-time or part-time placements.
The work experience we offer is suited to someone looking for a first job in publishing. The tasks we set are the kind of jobs an entry level candidate would be expected to do. We are able to offer placements in the editorial, production and marketing departments.
In the editorial department candidates will be given a range of duties including researching, sourcing and copying texts, checking pages, compiling and implementing editorial corrections and reading proofs.
In the production department candidates will scan and import texts for facsimile reproduction, prepare texts for publication and implement basic pre-production page layout style.
In the marketing department candidates will have an opportunity to learn about all aspects of book promotion. They will distribute bibliographic information, assist with leaflet design, direct mail and conference organisation. There are also opportunities to research new marketing opportunities and run e-campaigns. Candidates must have good spoken and written English.
The work is unpaid and we are not able to pay travel or living expenses.
