Job Title: Marketing Assistant
Reports to: Marketing Manager
Job Description
This is an ideal opportunity for the right candidate to join a growing company to develop their marketing skills at one of the few academic publishers still based in central London.
Reviews Management:
Plan and organize review coverage for a highly academic list:
- Researching appropriate journals
- Liaising with authors
- Managing relationship with reviewers and journal reviews editors
- Organizing despatch
- Ensuring reviews are completed and received
- Determining and using appropriate quotes for marketing purposes
Conferences:
- Research relevant conferences
- Organize book displays, attendance by publisher and/or conference pack inserts
- Produce promotional material for conferences
- Attend conferences where appropriate
Direct Marketing:
Working on both print and electronic campaigns the Marketing Assistant will be involved in most aspects of direct promotion including the researching of lists, copywriting and the coordinating of campaigns. Electronic promotion will take the form of website updates, researching and submitting copy to list-servs, working on content for registered customers and recruiting more registrants.
Bibliographical:
- Help to develop and maintain in-house databases
- Keep bibliographical agencies up to date with all changes and additions to publishing programme
- Provide bibliographical information and copy for trade customers
- Production and distribution of ABIs
General:
This role requires an excellent working relationship with the Marketing Manager. This means not only an ability to work together closely on campaigns but also to provide support on all other areas of marketing not covered explicitly in this job description, including some sales support work. The candidate would also be expected to be responsible for some general office duties where deemed appropriate.

- To maintain and improve our working relationships with external contacts
- To ensure excellent lines of communication with the other departments within the company
- To maintain awareness of competitor activity
- To ensure a professional and cost effective service from all our suppliers
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:
- Previous employment within an academic publishing environment would be a distinct advantage. We will also consider candidates with either a vocational qualification in publishing or marketing or those with relevant work experience.
- Good computer skills, preference will be given to candidates already with DTP skills (InDesign preferred)
- A good commercial attitude combined with strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
